A downloadable Insomnis for Windows

Insomnis is a horror game in first person. Yes, we know what you’re thinking: “Like the two hundred million indie horror games on Steam.” And you do not lack reason. Luckily, this one is good enough to stand out from the avalanche of proposals that has grazed the saturation of the genre. It is based mainly on well-known game concepts, with pillars in the setting and narrative of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, the concept of terror of P.T, and some more traditional puzzles. In the playable, it is a very simple game. There is no combat, only exploration, and we will need to go through a series of rooms looking for something that will allow us to move forward. That something can be an object to take, a painting to look at, a step to take or a small puzzle to solve. Within the simple concept and to be moderately guided.

The strength of the game along with the narrative and the resolution of riddles is undoubtedly the setting, a whole of which are guilty both the technical section that we will discuss later as the design of the game. The fact of having to advance without any weapon knowing that a threat can be hidden behind any corner keeps us in tension.

“If you like to pass real fear and solve puzzles this is your game”.

Technically Insomnis is made to surprise and dazzle with its spectacular settings and objects. At the artistic level we try to make the whole game monochromatic to have a really good experience.

The only source of light during the game is a most interesting music doll, this will provide the player with a terrifying experience. Since during the rest of the game will be in the dark.

  • Exploration centered on history: you will have to explore the environment to reveal the details of the sinister and tragic past of the main.
  • The fact of having to advance without any weapon knowing that a threat can be hidden behind any corner keeps us in tension.
  • Monochromatic scenarie.

this was a great horror game! The atmosphere and sounds were definetly creepy and had me on edge the whole time! The ending was what got me the most hahaha!

(Edited 1 time)

This game is amazing...nice atmosphere, sound but one thing is missing no jump scares..but still 10/10 :)

P.s: How to solve the puzzle quick check this out.

A very creative puzzle horror game, enjoyed it and we don't get much of these 10/10

I liked the puzzles a lot even if I had to see somebody else clear the paintings one since I was over complicating myself over it! Nice Job!

Played this on my channel! I'm not-so-good at spooky games, but had a pretty good time with this. Got a lil lost near the end. :P

Insomnis is exactly what it says it is a puzzle horror game. I suck at puzzles so I couldn't complete this game when it came to the painting puzzle. I don't know if it's just me but, the audio on the radio for the clues wasn't too audible to me. I think that's suppose to be part of the atmosphere of the game with that.  Having a guy with a drawn out voice. I'm not blaming the radio guy I think even if what he said was clear I would still be stumped on the painting puzzle. All in all it's a good horror game!

Great game it reminds me a lot of P.T. The story was scary and the graphics were amazing the jumpscares got me and it was overall just a really good game at parts i got a bit confused but apart from that it was amazing great game.

Can I know something about soundtrack? It's just too good :D

It looks really good graphically, there are some pretty creepy moments, and some puzzles (especially the puzzle to find the numbers for the phone) are really good, but the description of the game kinda led me to believe that a monster was going to be hunting me throughout the game, and I'm assuming it was just the sheet ghost, but there's only the 2 interactions with it and it never really becomes threatening to me, just a creepy, non-moving entity. While it looks really good, i think a more threatening looking model would be better. Also, maybe work on the volume control. The scream from the daughter on the phone seriously hurt my ears but the volume from everything else felt pretty normal. Also, I've seen a few playthroughs of the game (just 3) just to make sure I wasn't a complete idiot for not understanding the painting puzzle, but all of them just guessed. I'd suggest some sort of indicator as to what order to put them in as I feel like there's at least one from each selection that could match the hints. Take the hint on death. One of the painting selections had 2 that made sense with having death, and then another selction also has death, and 2 of those 3 painting literally have Death in them, but it's neither one of those! There's a painting of people that look blind, but that painting isn't the one the blind hint is talking about? I just don't think that puzzle is very well made at all and maybe some different painting choices would work better. Sorry for the super long review, but I just feel like this could have been a lot better than what it is now, especially with how good looking all the environment is.

All in all, it's still pretty fun, although I kinda stopped having a very fun time after my ears started hurting. Made a playthough, hope you enjoy.

This game is interesting

really cool concept fun puzzles well worth a play

Can you make a mac version of the game?

We are working on a version for Mac. We hope thtat this week can be available.

bumping plasmarift's comment, would also love to see a Mac version.

A really scary game. We enjoyed it very much!

The puzzles and the atmosphere is very good.

Here is a short video we made while playing:

Keep up the good work!!

It keeps crashing it doesn't even get past the opening for me??

Can you tell us your PC specifications?  It's very strange.

Even though its a quick game, it really creeped me out in some parts.  The atmosphere and the puzzles were extremely good.

Hi there! What is the track used as the background music for this game? I absolutely love it and would love to listen to it on its own!

creepy, interesting story.. would love to see a more in-depth and longer game with more story and more spooks

Pretty Spoopy! :P

The puzzles in the game were interesting, but I couldn't help but feel like the story was lost somewhere. Was it intentional?

Super Spooky... The puzzles were interesting as well. I got a bit lost with the story, but i'm assuming it's intended to be illusive? 5 Stars!

Great experience!

Gave it a go...

Yes this was certainly a very spooky experience and it took me a bit of time to figure out the puzzles, I recommend you give it a go if you have not already.

Today we venture through an old abandoned orphanage to locate the worst marvel movie ever. Insomnis just might make me never sleep again...

Made a video

I got an email about this game a week or two ago from you, and I really appreciate you reaching out! Right away I noticed that this game was optimized fantastically. The graphics were great and I got zero frame drops from any source. That's super rare to find in modern horror games with high-end visuals. The puzzles definitely stumped me a couple of times. Especially the one with the paintings. I still feel like I solved it the wrong way. I found a bug (maybe) in that room where if you switch to the correct painting, a little '1' pops on the top left corner of the screen. Other than that, this game was bug-less. The atmosphere was phenomenal and the place was HUGE. It had a very detailed backstory and a ton of stuff to go off of. The ending sort of confused me, though. Anywho, this was awesome. Thanks so much for making this!

Some nice looking visuals and I liked the different puzzles. The story wasn't incredibly clear though, and I did have trouble listening to the speech at certain points.

This was such an Awesome little game, I got so scared playing this. The atmosphere was so intense and felt creepy the whole way through the game, Every corner felt like it could be a jump scare. Definitely worth a play.

I actually loved it, the atmosphere was great, and always felt like I was about to get attacked or spooked 24/7. As well as little puzzles which was a nice touch, and you made it a little more difficult. Which I'm not complaining! It felt like there was more of just getting the pissed scared out of you. Besides that the voice acting that was in this indie game was far from bad. I can tell love has been put into this game because it's not cheesy and crap voice acting. All in all it wasn't bad! I did notice you used some stock yelling, and god that girl's scream actually made me deaf for a minute because you know, in horror games you have to put your sound to the max. Even with headphones. Good luck with progress!

Your game seems really promising!
I can see that you're using elements from Amnesia,  (using the player have a monologue etc) and from P.T. (the fact that the rooms can change), as you said in the game description. On top of that you added your own stuff, so the game doesn't feel like a clone of the afforementioned games, so good job on that.
The puzzles were clever enough to make me think, except the last one, since I had no idea what I was supposed to do. I managed to match the paintings by accident. It would be helpful to give a more straightforward hint. Also the phone dial glitched a couple of times, when I tried to input the numbers. But after a couple of tries it worked fine.
Visually the game could be better, but since there aren't any graphics options, I can see your choice of a little lower res textures and normal maps, since the game has to run in a wide variety of systems.
All in all I enjoyed the atmosphere of the game and the addition of puzzles. It is a game that focuses on atmosphere and environment to tell the story and this is kinda rare nowadays.
I wish you the best of luck with this project and I hope we will see a full game that remains true to what you said!!

Thank you for this game, I really loved it!

Path Games, you have managed to inject terror and fear into every nook and cranny of this horphanage (that's horror orphanage not what you're thinking).

The atmosphere kept me on the edge throughout and that addition of puzzles was something I wasn't expecting but bloody loved.

Thanks for creating this I look forward to playing more of your creations.

This game is super scary and creepy! I could see the elements of Amnesia and P.T you've described in the gameplay and that made me nervous throughout the game, especially with the ghost in the hallway. I have a question though. In the end when you put the film reels on the projector, there was nothing on the screen, but I could hear the girl's voice. Is a bug or did I mess up somehow? Thank you for creating this game!

One of the pictures you've used in the hall of art is from a movie Dead Silence. You may want to change it to avoid copyright issues.

I was just watching Markiplier play your game and I had to stop and come here to say this; I don't know if it was an accident or not, but I highly suggest you change the picture of the "missing 8 year old girl" as soon as you can, because using a picture of Caylee Anthony is in awful taste and just plain awful in general. Again, I'm assuming it was simply a mistake on your part, so I'm just letting you know before someone tries to use that to hurt you and your game. Thank you for reading; I wish you all the best.

First of all thank you very much for coming to tell us. It is a serious and unfortunate mistake, when we chose the photo we did not even know who this girl was. We will try to update this unfortunate error tomorrow.

Again, thanks for coming to tell us instead of accusing us.

I actually came here for the same thing! Your game is really interesting and creepy but that definitely hurt my immersion since I recognized the photo right away. Thank you for taking responsibility and working to change it!! She was a very cute little girl. With no background, it's easy to see why you'd want to use her picture.

You are welcome, thank you for working to make it right. I wish you all the best. :)

Really nice game! The graphics are fantastic and the atmosphere is great. The puzzles are very unique and fairly satisfying. I love the use of atmospheric scares as opposed to jumpscares. great job.

Insomnis, it comes at you very strong comparing itself to games like Amnesia the dark decent and PT, those are two HUGE titles to live up to, I don't feel like the game has a similar feeling to Amnesia or PT, but it wasn't bad because of that. Issues that I have with this game are few but in need of fixing, after reading a few other reviews of this game it's clear that most of the game audience has no idea we are supposed to be this character Dante, and has no idea we are somehow related to the girl that is missing or is sexual abused. Maybe something that would help with that is subtitles, I know there were subtitles in the room where you have to move pictures around to grab a tape, but if there's any sort of dialogue coming from the radios I completely missed it, and I could not make out what the girl was saying towards the end in my original play through, when I went back and edited the video, I could sit and listen to it (I wrote what I think it said in my video to help my viewers) but i'm thinking about the people who are just playing and not getting the chance to listen again. The last bit of talking *SPOILERS* when you put your hand in the hole in the wall I was still struggling to figure out what she was saying *SPOILERS OVER* Continuing to talk about the painting room, I don't feel like it's a bad idea, but I feel like some of the pictures could be changed, I tried to listen to what the recording said, the first word that popped out to me was blind, so in the first picture having what looks like two men without eyes I really thought that was the one and couldn't quite relate the pictures to their words, after figuring it out I could see how they could fit a bit more, but in the first play through I felt like I was just mindlessly pulling the levers for a little bit. Now enough with the negative, you have me SO SO SO SO SO intrigued, when it comes to darker stories I am immediately pulled in, so having these news paper clips of sexual abuse inside an orphanage has so many thoughts bouncing around in my head about what happened and was it someone in the orphanage, someone that adopted her, and so on. I think you've made an absolutely gorgeous game, I love the clash of colors, blue vs pink anything across the color wheel and i'm sold, I also am seriously in love with the flashlight, it's stunning and I would love something like that in real life, where did the concept for that come from because it's so cool? I thought the water on the floors was done flawlessly, and the long hallway with the crosses was nerve racking, so environmentally there's nothing I can point to and say fix that. The ending has me a bit confused but so much more intrigued, why the fuck would we do that? And is that going to play into the next section of the game? Is this little girl playing mind games with us and playing us to get to her? Are we really just seeing things like the ghost? Are we really the abuser but we still care about her and trying to get her back? There's just so many options to play with in this game and I can not wait to see what you are going to do with this. Once the story is polished, I can really see this blowing up. One thing that helps me when creating stories (I'm an author) Is knowing that I know everything that I want to happen, I know every character and where the story is and where it's going, but if you go through your work, really look and see what the audience is getting out of it. We are a blank slate soaking up all of this information for the first time with no knowledge about what's going on or where it's leading, make us understand, give us all the small details you think we might not need. But I hope I could help, and I really hope you continue to work on this game because I would love to see what happens with this game in the future! -Alexia

First of all, Thank you for playing our game. We will have in consideration your review of Insomnis the bad and the good of course. We are now working on an upgrade and introducing more lore, two endings and clues for understand the paintings puzzle. Yes, indeed they are related with Dante and we wanted to compare the Dante's travel into the Hell with our character.

About the idea of the flashlight being a ballerina it's a idea that we had because a lot of games use a common flashlight, also it represents the girl that appears at the ending of our game. Stay tuned about the next update, we are going to make the story much bigger and you will understand a lot of things.

The team of Path Games.

I very much look forward to it! On the topic of Dante, is it supposed to relate to Dante Alighieri at all? Or just the same name?
